Topinkomensgroei als macrofenomeen

In Nederland verdient 0,1 procent van de bevolking ruim 1,4 procent van het nationale inkomen. Dit aandeel groeit sinds twee decennia sterk, onderdeel is van een wereldwijde trend. Vier structurele economische veranderingen kunnen topinkomensgroei verklaren: globalisering, ICT-gebruik, belastinghervormingen en een toename in de scheiding tussen eigendom en controle van ondernemingen. Topinkomensgroei kan structurele gevolgen hebben via de druk op belastingtarieven, veranderende consumptie- en spaarpatronen, verslechteringen van de betalingsbalans, slechtere gezondheid en minder draagvlak voor publieke voorzieningen.
