Over de Betekenis van Pierson in de Geschiedenis van de Economische Discipline

Deze rede bespreekt de betekenis van Nicolaas Pierson in de geschiedenis van de economie. Deze betekenis zal afhangen van het historisch perspectief dat men hanteert. Het gekozen perspectief is die van de Nederlandse Canon, namelijk geschiedenis als reflectie van de visie op wetenschap. In het kader van de huidige discussies over institutioneel racisme worden Piersons opvattingen over de slavernij en de zogenaamde compensatieregeling besproken. Het blijkt dat zijn opvattingen racistisch gemotiveerd waren.
